Obtaining your B Licence
In order to avail of our services you must hold a Category B provisional permit. To obtain a provisional permit you must be at least 17 years of age and must have passed the Category B Driver Theory Test with Prometric within the last two years. After passing the Driver Theory Test and obtaining all necessary documents, you must apply for a permit with the NDLS.
Upon receiving your provisional permit, you are required by the RSA to take a course of 12 EDT (Essential Driver Training) lessons over a six month period. These lessons must be administered by an RSA-registered ADI.
Once you have held your provisional permit for a minimum of six months and have completed 12 mandatory EDT lessons, you are eligible to sit the RSA Category B Driving Test.
For more information on obtaining a Category B provisional permit and full licence, visit NDLS.

EDT (Essential Driver Training) is a mandatory training course that was introduced by the RSA to promote road safety among learner drivers. If your first Category B learner permit was issued on or after 4th April 2011, you must complete 12 mandatory EDT lessons in order to take your driving test.
Each lesson is one hour long and must be administered by a registered ADI. Your ADI will issue you a logbook, which will be stamped and filled out after each lesson with practice tips for your next lesson. You must produce your learner permit before each lesson.
You should read and be aware of what each lesson consists of to benefit the most from the course. Note that lessons 1 through 8 must be taken in sequence, but lessons 9 through 12 can be taken in any order.
